“Three rainbows AND their wives, drinking bees in Joshua Tree”

I’m honestly sad that we never found Joshua.

First trip of the year for both SayTay and I, so we decided to camp overnight in Joshua Tree. A two hour drive east, past a wind farm, three rainbows and we finally arrive at the visitors center. “Beware of Bees” no way no how are we touching that water fountain. We took the road more traveled at the fork, filled out an easy permit and hiked all our gear towards Lost Palms Oasis. Where we stop, no one knows.

About a mile in, God’s Thumb beckons from the distance so, of course, we head over. We stumble upon a somewhat shallow ravine. We all cheer at our luck, campground found, all we have to do is get down. The yellow unpainful looking bushes are painful, we seal the water flat with duct tape, set up the 2 and 6-person tents and we’re good to go. This is the set for a StarTrek episode, I swear.

Up, down, around we explore and it’s suddenly dusk. Both the moon and the sun are in the sky!

The cacti are brutal as we stumble back to camp with one t0o few flashlights. Tent stories, dubstep bear rocking our tent, walking out onto the moon… a good night.

Morning after, I photographed the source of my misery and up we went to God’s Thumb.

Best discovery of the trip? There’s actually a surprise behind God’s Thumb :) Choosing between Lost Palms and Matador Peak, we decided to climb.

The view from above was beautiful. A little more exploration and then packed up, hiked to the car and drove back into civilization, which, of course, included a prolonged argument over Del Taco and In-n-Out. Met some awesome people on too short a trip and back to the bubble we went… there will definitely be many more JTree trips in the future!
